Wedding Invitation Etiquette from Noteworthy Invitations

When it comes to wedding invitations, etiquette is extremely important. If you’re wondering when you should send them and what you need to include, you’re not alone! In this post, we will look at a few of the most common questions people have regarding their wedding invitations.

When should wedding invitations be sent? In order to give your guests adequate time to clear their schedules, you should send out your wedding invitations six to eight weeks before your wedding day. However, if you’re having a destination wedding where most guests will need to make travel arrangements, you should send them out twelve weeks before.

It’s also a great idea, and becoming common practice, to send out save the dates six to eight months before your wedding.

When should we make the RSVP deadline? Your RSVP deadline should be two to three weeks before the date of your wedding in order to give yourself enough time for a final head count and to finish your seating chart. If you haven’t received RSVPs from some of your guests, give them a call asking them to get their RSVP in the mail.

Should we include registry information? No. It’s considered impolite, and even tacky, to include registry information on your wedding invitations. You can, however, include your registry information on your wedding website.

Where do we include wedding website information? The best place to include your wedding website URL is on your save the date. If you prefer, you can also have cards printed with your website information to include in your wedding invitation envelope.

What’s the best way to communicate the wedding is adults only? You should make sure to address the invitations to each guest by name (do not put “and guest”). For most people, this should be enough. If, however, you get an RSVP with children’s names added, you should reach out and let them know that the wedding is adults only and hope they can still attend. If there are a lot of children in your family, especially if they live out of town, you may also want to consider making arrangements for a babysitter for your guests.
